Exciting news from the world of African fintech! Visa has announced the shortlisted startups for the second cohort of its Africa Fintech Accelerator program, and two Tanzanian startups AzamPay and Beem have made the cut.

This prestigious program offers a launchpad for promising fintech ventures across Africa. Selected startups benefit from a 12-week intensive experience packed with:

The kickoff of innovation week

The Innovation Week Tanzania 2024, a series of regional events dedicated to showcasing and fostering innovation across the country has kicked off. From May 1st to May 20th, a variety of activities such as exhibitions, workshops, conferences, policy dialogues, product and project launches, virtual events, and radio and TV programs about innovation will take place nationwide.

In Dar es Salaam, the main events will occur from May 21st to May 24th at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC). This yearโ€™s theme, "Innovation for a Competitive Economy" or "Ubunifu kwa Uchumi Shindani" in Kiswahili, underscores the vital role of innovation in driving economic growth and competitiveness.

KuaAfrica Forum

The first KuaAfrica forum was a success, bringing together 100 attendees from around the world to explore opportunities in innovation, entrepreneurship, FinTech, AgriTech, and the Blue Economy. This remarkable forum came into existence in collaboration with UNDP, Cube Zanzibar, and VC4A. The forum showcased the immense potential of green technology and sustainable development in Africa.

Climathon Tanzania: Uniting Minds for Climate Innovation

Over three days, 50 passionate participants gathered to tackle climate change challenges with AI-driven solutions. This remarkable event was organized by EIT Climate-KIC, Omdena, and Sahara Ventures. Through dynamic discussions, brainstorming sessions, and expert-led workshops, the event fostered an environment of creativity and collaboration.
